A chinrest that fits!

I am a violinist. Regular chinrests are clamped on the violin, they exist in many different shapes and materials, but they never really fit well to the chin.

I wanted to address that: I developed a new kind of chinrest that fits the chin of the violinist perfectly. This requires a lot of steps:

  • scanning and measuring the violin (every violin is different)

  • CAD designing the future chinrest holder (a non-clamping one!)

  • 3D-moulding and scanning of the chin-shape

  • CAD redesigning of the chinrest holder

  • CNC milling the chinrest in the desired wood.

I developed a new way to attach the chinrest to the violin. I don't use the usual clamps anymore, and this results in a massive improvement of the sound of the violin. The traditional chinrests 'pinch' the sound tables of the violin and greatly reduce the sound.

The first prototypes are doing very well, I already played on these during various concerts.

I am also considering the option to use Memory foam instead of CNC-milled wood on top of the customized chinrest holder, which would be a cheaper alternative.

It's a revolution in violin playing. I am looking for violinists who want to try this new kind of chinrest.

Fill in this form if you want to be one of the firsts to experiment a new era in violin playing.

The photo gallery below shows some prototypes. The final product will have a better finish. The holder is in light-weight aluminium, but the final product will probably be made in titanium.
